Ben, I Need My Heart Medicine

I saw the movie Signs tonight. It is the scariest movie I HAVE EVER SEEN. You have to see it.

There are three things that scare me. Serial killers, ghosts, and aliens (the bad kind, that don’t want to be friends with you and phone home). Up until a few hours ago, Silence of The Lambs was probably the movie that scared me the most. But that is considering that I was about 12 when I saw it. Now, I’m all grown-up, and I almost cried in a movie theatre because I was so freaked out.

I’m scared. I think I need to go to bed now and get some hugs.

  1. I tried to use the Signs website yesterday. I think it’s all in Flash 6. I only have Flash 5 installed (these numbers may be wrong but principle is the same) because I think the latest upgrade breaks Flash for Mozilla and OmniWeb and only works with I.E.

Who wants to live life with I.E. being the only available browser that does Flash? (Does this make any sense? It did when I started.)

  2. I saw ‘Rose Red’ last night. It was a four and a half hour DVD. When I had to switch to the second disk, it took me about ten minutes to psych myself up to get up to change it. It was flaming scary. That was pretty scary. Remember when we used to watch sad old scary videos like ‘Severed Arm’ that were totally shite and not scary at all?

I will have to watch that ‘Signs’ when it comes out here in 2007.

  3. Oh, I forgot. I think ‘House on Haunted Hill’ is the scariest movie I ever saw. At the beginning when the mental patients start attacking the staff, I said to Richard that I wanted to leave because I was so scared. But I am glad I stayed because I really liked it.

  4. I hate those psychological thrillers. The most recent one I have seen is The Cell. That guy one fucked up mofo. I watched it late on a Sunday and then had horrible dreams all night. And, Hannibal, you know with the brains, and the guy was still talking while they were know, frying up bits of his brain. OMG gross.

  5. The cell was quite disturbing.. i thought it would have been just stupid.. but it got quite gross.. and i don’t get disturbed easily. bring it on i say!

Bascially if a film doesn’t make me physcially sick, angry, or bring me to tears it’ll never get 10/10 from me.

  6. i want to watch ‘Watership Down’ again.

    :)

  7. :) saw two trailers for ‘the two towers’ the other week at the drive in! it looks good. cant wait til december to see it. everyone should go to the drive in.

  8. ani, you should totally wait for the extended fabulous platinum version coming out in november. FOUR disks, yeah baby!

  9. I think “Signs” is getting released in New Zealand fairy soon. Yay!

Good horror movies are so rare. I don’t generally like horror movies unless they’re really good. There’s too many that are all build up and really disappointing pay off. Too many “he’s behind you!!!” movies.

  10. SCARIEST MOVIE EVER.

Last night, two nights after seeing it, I had trouble going to sleep because I thought there were aliens outside the window.

Oh yeah, Signs is scary. Aliens scare the crap out of me, too. I used to work at a bookstore, and I hated going into the New Age/Mysticism section, because all the Whitely Streiber books were there, and those Grays staring out at me from the book covers just freaked me out.
This all stems from my childhood when I watched a movie about the abduction of Barney and Betty Hill. This was one of the first “true life” abduction movies made. The aliens in that movie scared the hell out of me, and I’ve been scared of them ever since.
And no, I haven’t been abducted! The soreness in my posterier is a wholly medical condition. Honestly. Really.

  12. You too eh? I was so freaking scared that I had to make sure both my closet doors were completely closed before I turned off the light.

I think I screamed out loud in the theatre too…

I loved every minute of it!

  13. i think you should watch ‘the audition’…

  14. I bought lord of the rings dvd yesterday, the accents are normal sounding for the most part.. but theres this guy who i think was head of Weta FX, and he sounded worse that Lynn of Tawa.

oh and the two towers preview is super fantastic.. looks like it will be much better than the first movie.

  15. or at least just sounds stupid.

  16. Do the murders in “Signs” actually have anything to do with the circles? I heard the circles were purely a side story to the main story.

  17. Signs is already out here in Auckland. Maybe it’s just not out in Wellingtr0n yet.

    Claire

  18. I’m in London. I don’t think “Signs” is out here either. I may be wrong though. I haven’t been to any movies since I have been here so I don’t follow what is happening in that regard. I just read on a website ( I forget which) where Mel Gibson was describing what the movie was about. He said that the murders were the main story and the circles were the minor story. who knows.

  19. I preordered Lord of the Rings DVD because I didn’t see it in a theater. It came about three days ago but I haven’t a chance to see it yet. Always like Tolkien’s books, The Lost Tales, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Silmarillion, etc and am not sure I want to see the movie. Looks like there are 2 discs in box. What in the world would they use 4 discs for? Oh well….

  20. 4 discs – so you can use them as frisbees? or if you loose one you stil have 3? to make it sound cool. or for “bonus features” and extra 30mins of footage. ;-) raaaa

  21. is it cool to talk about the end of Signs yet?

  22. No, please don’t.

  23. Signs sucked!

What the hell!? Scary aliens? Yeah, real scary. Those pantry doors sure are complex prisons. Where are the rayguns? Water is poisnous?

Would you invade a planet that was covered in Flesh-Eating acid? I dont think so.

    Laaaaaame.

  24. The aliens have mental problems. They want to die, but don’t want to take the easy way out, so they decide to conquer a planet which, to them, is extremely dangerous. They’ll be seen as heroes if they succeed againt such sharp odds, and if they die, it will be a gallant sacrafice, because everyone knows that ALL alien races think that getting killed by humans or water is a very brave thing to do. Brave indeed.

  25. And of COURSE they don’t use the ray guns. Those are only used by the redneck aliens who probe farmers. Besides, it wouldn’t be very fair if the aliens got to use ray guns and laser zappy thingies if the humans didn’t, now would it?

  26. The reason why signs was scary while you watched it was that most of the shocks came in broad daylight. Like the bit where alien walks across the path at the birthday party, or when you see the aliens reflection on the TV. Signs gave me way more frights than the 6th Sense and in that way it was great.

But afterwards I wasn’t scacred any more. Mainly because the aliens turned out to be sooks.

Also, we get that noise on the roof all the time at home and I know for a fact it is a neighborhood cat. It fucking is.

  27. Your adrenaline might just be playing tricks on you. :)

  28. Also, it is very human to be scared of things one can’t control. It is at the source of mankinds struggle to get the edge over nature and is the reason we have things like insurance and chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

  29. stubbled into your weblog…..nice stuff….may I suggest Manhunter as my
    nomination for most scary movie.

  30. That is so NOT a scary movie. It’s not scary to the point where you are scared long after the movie has finished. Although, I could have been wasted when I saw it and can’t remember it very well.

Also, Pippy, Mum says she found the photo of us from the airport last year and wants to give it to you. She said she called you two days ago. You should go get it, even though it’s a bad photo.

  31. I saw Dragonfly last night. It’s dumb – don’t bother watching it.

Ben and I have a reserved copy of The Fellowship Of The Ring on DVD that we can pick up this week. I can’t wait to see all the extra material that involves lots of people with New Zealand accents.

  32. There’s a bit of that in Signs, but it’s well done and not cheesy like a lot of scare movies. Basically, the movie is shot from the perspective of this family out in the middle of nowhere, and I think it’s realistic in regards to how they act in their situation. The script is brilliant, because there is a lot of dry humour, which I think makes it more realistic, and it also sets you at ease, and then there’s the scares. I don’t want to give anything away, although I think from the trailer it’s… well I don’t want to give anything away.

  33. Yeah! We got that DVD yesterday too. That dude sounds so bloody thick.

  34. The “main story” is more of an underlying theme. The crop circles and all that are the main story. I’m not going to tell you anymore, because it really is a great movie, and you should see it!

  35. I was scared afterwards, because I’m scared of things that I can’t control (read: I have issues). :D
