And now comes Christmas.

I can’t believe it’s Christmas already. I can’t believe how quickly this year has flown past. It’s a bit scary really, because next thing I know I’ll be old and decrepit and using a walking frame.

But before that happens, I get to spend Christmas with my friend Mischa. We used to go to high school together – we were in art and photography together, and were also in a band – but he moved to Manchester about four years ago. Anyway, this Christmas he is coming to stay with me for a whole week. I am super excited! We will be having a proper Kiwi Christmas, and will be celebrating it with another Down Underer called Jason that I met a month or so ago. He’s in Houston from Perth for work, so is also familyless this holiday season.

I am going to cook a wicked as pav, and Mischa is in charge of the trifle, and we will get drunk and be stupid and listen as our accents start coming back.

Wee! I am so excited!

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them

In celebration of getting my Christmas bonus and having given up smoking for two-and-a-half years I rushed to the store.

And bought pack of cigarettes.

I then proceeded to go home and open a bottle of “champagne” and smoke INSIDE the house after being such a smoke nazi for the last two-and-a-half years.

I really am the biggest hypocrite ever to step on this earth. Luckily for me justice was served by the house stinking like crap for the entire weekend, and me feeling crap to match the smell. However, now I have an opened pack of fags sitting on my desk. Staring at me. Last night, I opened the packet, and deeply inhaled the raisiny scent of Dunhill Blue. Oh, how I missed that smell. But I didn’t smoke any.

Now, as a non-smoker, I have an opened pack of cigarettes staring me in the face every time I sit at my computer. I haven’t touched them since Friday night. My restraint (well, aside from the act of actually buying them) is impressive. Sort of.

Okay, not really.
