Au revoir!

The day has finally come. Well, almost. Tomorrow I leave the United States forever.

It still hasn’t really hit me that I’m leaving tomorrow, even though tonight I’ll be sleeping on an air mattress in my completely furnitureless apartment. I’ve managed to sell or give away almost everything I own. And just like when I arrived in the States, I’m leaving with two suitcases, and that’s it. Crazy.

The plan is:

  • Arrive in Belgium on the 25th of May
  • Daytrip to Amsterdam and/or Brugge
  • Arrive in Vienna around the start of June
  • Arrive in Prague a few days after that
  • Arrive in Italy a few days after that, try to visit Venice, Rome, and possibly Tuscany
  • Arrive in Barcelona on the 14th of June, stay a week, attend the Sonar music and multimedia festival
  • Arrive in Porto, Portugal around the 20th of June, stay a week
  • Travel back to Antwerp, Belgium, hopefully stopping somewhere in the south of France, as well as Paris, on the way
  • Help the wonderful P pack his things to move to the UK
  • Arrive in Manchester around the second week of July

I am going to be seriously tired once I arrive in Manchester. Possibly even a little crazy from staying in hostels and travelling on trains for the previous two months. Possibly. I’ve never done anything like this before, so I’ll be crazy from being completely unaccustomed to being a travelling hobo-sightseer.

I will be updating along the way. And I’ll definitely be taking loads of pictures!.

  1. Ahhh. Belgium. Have a beer in the Grand Place, wonder ‘why the maniken pis’ and check out Ghent. I used to catch the train there and then hitch to see my sister in Bruges. Forget going for a dip in the sea however….

  2. bon voyage ani

  3. Hey ani,

Your going to have fun! I’m so jealous. Will be weird not having a real home for a few months.. you’ll be a trasient! Yay!

    Lots of love. cheers.

  4. Are you going to visit the Vatican? I am sure some religion would do you wonders. You were so nice when you were a Bappy.

  5. Perhaps I will try to go to the Vacatian and breakdance for the Pope so he will bless me.

  6. You don’t know me, but I’m obscenely jealous. I’ve been wanting to take a trip around Europe like that forever.

It seems that only when you get to a place that you’re completely unfamiliar with and ridiculously far from home, or with no home, that you can leave self-consciousness behind and really start to have fun.

Greece would probably be cool too.

  7. Hi Ani, I enjoy your blog. Good luck living in Great Britain. I would love to hear a report back on whether you find people in Europe, and the UK, easier to get along with than Americans. Also I would like to know, in general, your unbiased view of how easy it is for you to have a nice, happy life in the UK versus Houston Texas. There are plenty of haters around who would love to see Texas nuked, and I don’t hold to that view – I think the people there are very nice. So, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter once you’ve lived in both worlds. Thanks.

  8. Hi Ani, I am your loyar reader for years. If you want, I can show you the best from Prague :-)
