Proper employed, says I!

Well, it’s official. I am a proper tax-paying slave to the Queen as of September 13th. I found out this morning that I have been offered (and of course, accepted) one of the positions that I had interviewed for yesterday. I am really excited because the job sounds interesting and the company sounds great. They are an urban rejuvenation company that find crappy run-down parts of towns, and basically, make them better. They renovate old buildings, make things pretty, build schools, shops, stuff like that. So, as it’s a very small company I should be able to do loads of different things like I did at my last job. Wonderful!

Best of all, I found it out the Friday before a bank holiday. So now I have three days of boozing it up and spending money for no real reason. (This is mostly a lie. P and I bought a PS2 so we’ll probably be stuck to the screen playing random games. Woot for teh gamez0rz!)

Manchester living

I’ve been in Manchester for about 6 weeks now. I have four interviews lined up this week, and have also been offered the position at the place I’m temping at. Hopefully I will have a permanent job soon!

We still don’t have internet yet. We have an installation date for Saturday, so hopefully I can be online after then. I have so many emails to catch up on and loads to write about. I also have some photos to sort and upload. However, spending this long without the internet makes me not really be bothered. But I guess I do need something to do, seeing how Manchester is so bloody cold and rainy, you can’t really go outside that often.

That is, unless you like to be wet and cold.

Semi-employed is me

Well, I have a job. At least, I have a temporary job for about the next two months. I’m working at a bank assisting the head of “Finance & Business Services” until they hire a person fulltime. So far it seems fairly uneventful, a little slow, very banky, and the guys in the office are straight of The Office. I don’t really like temping because you’re always The Temp, which is never a fun title to have. However, it’s money in the bank, which is great now that I actually have a bank account. I’m almost a real person now. The best news, however, is that P got a job. A proper permanent job! Woot!

So, I’m like, living in Manchester. The weather here has surprisingly been a lot like Houston the last week – hot, humid, and stormy. The other night there was a thunderstorm where a bolt of lightning hit somewhere very close to where I was sitting. I think I crapped in my pants a little. But because it’s been so humid, I have to say that I really miss air-conditioning. We don’t even have a fan in our flat, and we get sun the entire day round (corner apartment) which is going to be great in winter but sucks major ass in summer. It’s great that we have a swimming pool though, and we’ve been using it almost daily. And jacuzzi. And sauna. And gym. And games room. Except I don’t use the gym. Fuck that.

Anyway, so I have to say, Manchester is actually pretty alright. I got a really good haircut from a girl called Verity from Claritys the other day, I love our flat, we have friends close by, and we’re sorting out all the bullshit crap you have to sort out when you move countries. Soon we may even have internet and a telephone! Fancy that!
