I have been meaning to write about this software for ages, because I get quite a few emails about it from people who’ve seen it in use in my photo directory.

EUWDPCpix™ is an image viewing script that makes browsing images online really simple. You can see it in action in my photo section.

So, why is EUWDPCpix™ so good? Well, first of all, it is completely CSS customisable, so you can make it look however you want it to look. However, I think the best features are a little more technical.

You may or may not know, but most photos taken with digital cameras (or saved with software like Adobe Photoshop) save what is called EXIF data into the image file. EXIF data contains information such as thumbnails, time and date taken, exposure, aperture, file size, camera used, and loads more. EUWDPCpix™ extracts this data so you can view it as you browse. And because most photos have embedded thumbnails that aren’t used, it cuts down on load times because thumbnails aren’t generated.

EUWDPCpix™ also has an admin system to add comments and create thumbnails for images that don’t have them embedded in the EXIF data. To boot, it’s easy to install and manage.

I really think this is a great image viewer, especially for digital photographers. I could be biased because my boyfriend P coded it, but it was in the Guardian a month or so ago, so it must be good!
