External drives are yor friend. For me Carbon Copy Cloner does it quite well, although it is not exactly fancy. Although all my experiences with Apple Care in Germany were great, very competent and helpful people there, Apple Care seems not to be the perfect solution in every case. The best approach is to have it for a portable (it saved me tons on my iBook) but not to call Apple unless you really have to. Just take the Mac to a competent dealer around the corner and let them deal with it.

I’m going to start using Chronos Sync to sync up my data to an external drive.

I’m taking my laptop in today. I don’t think I’ll have it back until next Friday. LAME.

This is almost exactly like that episode of Sex in the City. Sarah-Jessica Parker takes her broken computer to a technician wrapped in a pashmina :)

To be honest, I would never switch completely back to Windows, but I am very annoyed. I still love OS X, I’m just pissed at the pitiful AppleCare support.

I’ve managed to recover some data, so it’s not the end of the world, and it makes things easy for when Tiger is released!

Real moral of the story: Back your shit up!

Great… I just bought my first Mac (iBook G4) in September. I was seriously considering switching out my two other Windows PCs for Macs. Now I think I’m going to go home and spend the weekend burning back up CDs of all of my data on the iBook.
