Dear Friends

Do any of you have Skype? I’m trying to justify a reason to use it. Surely someone from home has to use it!

Love,

  1. We used to use it for IM and voice over ip at my work but then we switched to MSN. I liked Skypes interface and it sure saves money on long distance phone calls.

  2. Yes I do, it does wonders on long distance calling as it is cheaper. The sound quality is great, even though if you’re only using it with calls over the internet, I like Google Talk more.

My Skype user ID is gabofr ;)

  3. Skype is hype. By the way try THIS->

    1. Go to google.com
    2. Type in the word “failure”
    3. DO NOT click search
    4. Click “I’m Feeling Lucky” (the tab right next to search)

  4. I’m on Skype, but I dislike the interface and the only person that I would usually talk to on Skype also has iChat AV available. Obvious choice. Nevertheless, a Mac-less friend just went to Scotland for a year, maybe I’ll Skype him a bit.

  5. Aaah… let me think now:
    1) Skype has encrypted chat. vs. MSN that can be tracked at your ISP by anyone with access.
    2) It has dialin numbers (ie it allows people to call you from normal phones) with an answering machine service. I have friends who basically do all their business through skype. Mate it with an Bluetooth handsfree device and you forget about your phone:) The amount of countries supported is rather small tho..
    3) We all know that you can make internet to real-phone calls to.. anywhere… and cheap.
    4) 4 (?) people confrerence calls :) That comes handy when fragging on the net with a bunch of friends:) and you don’t have teamspeak server or something similar available.

The downside is that not everybody uses skype – because if they did, me and most of people I know would stop using msn :) But keeping two instant messaging apps running is a waste of resources.

  6. I use it to call my friend i Denmark. It’s great.

  7. I use it to call my gf in Germany and to talk with customers. Pretty kewl.

I am already on your list anyway :p

  8. I think I can’t be arsed using it. It seems stupid to have add another chat medium when I already use 3. Seriously, why can’t everyone use the same one? iChat is the nicest, but sadly not everyone has a Mac. Skype is kinda gay.

  9. hey, so iChat is kinda straight then?

  10. I’d say it’s kinda ambivalent.

  11. I use it for phonecalls, but I find it tends to cause dull conversations full of awkward silences because there’s no real reason to hang up. The phonecall seems to lose its momentum.

  12. i need friends from skype b’cos am a new person.
